Dr Deo holds a Sub-Specialty Certificate in Reproductive Medicine from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in conjunction with the University of Cape Town (2017). Having qualified as a Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Cape Town through Groote Schuur Hospital, she received a Golden Speculum Award for best research in Gynaecology in 2006. She obtained her MBChB from MEDUNSA (now known as SMU) with distinction in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and The Mokgokong Award for Best Student in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1997. This was preceded by a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology & Biochemistry from Rhodes University in 1992. She holds other professional qualifications in Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Surgery from the World Laparoscopy Hospital in India and a Postgraduate Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine from the University of Warwick, UK. She also completed training in Medical Mediation with Mediation in Motion Academy & the University of Cape Town.
